Few years back, I read an article about a case of honor killing, where a father and a brother of a young woman doused her on with kerosene and set her on fire for having a premarital relationship with a young man.
As I was reading the article, I remember being utterly shocked by the whole practice of honor killing and how this antiquated practice was still condoned in numerous Muslim community.
Today, I read an article that a couple in Wisconsin, USA, who believe in faith healing, a belief that healing comes from God thus not to be interfered by medicine, watched their 11-year-old daughter die on the floor of their home while praying rather than seek medial care.
More over, their daughter, who had an undiagnosed but treatable form of diabetes, suffered continuous as their parents choose to ignore obvious symptoms of severe illness as she became too weak to speak, eat, drink or walk.
During their trial, the parents uttered these words as a defense for murdering their child, "I am guilty of trusting my Lord's wisdom completely. Guilty of asking for heavenly intervention. Guilty of following Jesus Christ when the whole world does not understand. Guilty of obeying my God" … which goes to show, religious fanaticism exists everywhere in the world.
